Bad Credit Car Loan (Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom):
The Mona Lisa was one of Leonardo's favorite paintings, and he carried it with him until he died. Today, it is regarded as the most famous painting in the world, and is visited by many thousands of people every year.
Irony (Bangor, ME):
the funny thing is that the mona lisa itself is so low rated...a 2.3 right now...
I mean, its not an original remix of the mona lisa, so it should be rated low as that...
but as a work of art, it was what made everything on this page possible--not only by its (her) very existence, but the quality of the work itself. You don't see these "mashups" done with my portraits.
And in that way, this page is a TRIBUTE to the mona lisa as a great work of art. People are using this iconic image in their own way, perhaps reflecting the impact that the work has had on them. As such, each and every one of the pieces are not parodies, but TRIBUTES.
If anyone should "think about it", or if anything deserves serious reflection, it is all of us, and we should think about what exactly the meaning of these images are. More than likely, they would transcend any simple relation, either of parody or, even as I say it, tribute. We see that these images are not THE mona lisa, even though her face may be used. this is because the image is not one of its components, but its totality. There is also the historical dimension to this site. What happens to the mona lisa after this time? In what context do we see her? Always on an Italian countryside?
As I suggested, these images reflect what we see in her, the context in which she seems to fit (even in a perverse way, occasionally). As bin Laden, we see the iconography of the figure and face, and the symbolic value they contain (Today, mona lisa and bin Laden's faces speak volumes to those who gaze). As a pin up, we reflect today's notions of sensuality and seduction and can easily, in a single image, compare it to that of the past. And if one responds that the mona lisa smile is in no way seductive, but enigmatic, and in no way sensual but psychological then let us consider the chasm that exists between the enigma of the mind, and of the body.
We can always think harder than a knee-jerk reaction when some one alters one of our favorite images. Or can you?
